Sabal Homes History Over the Years

January 1976

The Beginning

Founded Sabal Investments, Inc. to perform home improvement and on-your-lot residential construction throughout Hillsborough County.  President Jim Lee personally supervised construction while son Bill Lee designed the homes and assisted with the construction process.

1979

Hidden Forest

Acquired 25 acres in south Brandon and subdivided the property into 48 1/3-acre homesites to accommodate their upscale single family residential homes between 2,100 and 3,100 square feet.

1985

Hidden Forest East

Acquired 10 acres in east Brandon which they rezoned and subdivided into 20 single-family 1/3-acre homesites.  This project was developed and built with the idea of providing traditionally designed semi-custom homes at reasonable prices.  Tom Lee joins Sabal Investments, Inc.

1986

Kingsfield Center

Constructed 9,000 square foot office complex at 915 Oakfield Drive in Brandon for a sister company. With clerestory architecture and differing floor elevations, construction was as complex as many three-story structures.

Fairway Manors

Purchased home sites in Valrico providing additional exposure in the large scaled Bloomingdale master-planned community.

1988

Hunter’s Green

Acquired 33 acres in the 2,000 acre, upscale master planned development.  Architect Aram Bassenian of New Port Beach, California was commissioned to design homes for this project.  Underwent formal name change to Sabal Homes of Florida, Inc.

Aurora Award

Sabal Homes is the first builder in Hillsborough County to receive the prestigious Aurora Award which recognizing design and marketing excellence from the Southeastern Builder’s Conference governing the 17 Southeastern states.

Wynstone, Cypress Ridge, Magnolia Chase, Osprey Pointe, Laurel Ridge

Sabal built homes in Hunter’s Green totaling some $30 million.

FishHawk Trails

Sabal Homes continues to build in this community with home ranging from 2575 to 4200 square feet averaging $375,000.  Innovative designs and attention to detail distinguish Sabal Homes in this community.

FishHawk Ranch – Osprey Park, Jaeger Glen, Merlin Glen, Vireo Ridge

Sabal Homes opens in mid-July their first model home in FishHawk Ranch, Phase II – a $1 billion master planned community in south eastern Hillsborough County. Sabal Homes offers six inviting floor plans ranging from 2,575 to 3,300 square feet averaging $275,000 including home site.

First builder in history of Hillsborough county to be featured in Professional Builder magazine.

Sabal Homes continues as one of Newland Communities’ preferred custom homebuilders.  Throughout the era of the FishHawk Ranch community’s high-profile presence, Sabal Homes emerges as a foremost luxury homebuilder.

MiraBay

The first Tampa-bay area premier coastal-living-themed community. Sabal Homes offered luxury waterfront living, peaking at over half million dollars, when the average community price point was approx. $375,000. Award-winning homes built here include 2006 Best Home in the Nation (NAHB) Tradewinds 4 and multi-Aurora awards Gulfwinds 5.
